Sugar Cookies can be made for any time of the year, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanks Giving, and Christmas. They all use the same ingredients just pick a cookie cutter to fit the season you are celebrating.
In a large bowl mix the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light in color.
1 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup white sugar
Add the egg and milk and beat to combine.

At low speed, gradually add flour and beat until the mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl.
Divide the dough in half, wrap it in waxed paper, and refrigerate it for 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from the refrigerator at a time, sprinkle a rolling pin with powdered sugar, and roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick.

Cut into the desired shape, place at least 1-inch apart on a greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat.
Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, rotating the cookie sheet in 4 minutes. Cookies are done when they begin to turn brown around the edges.
Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for 2 minutes after removing them from the oven. Transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Serve as is or decorate with icing as desired. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
